FAQs

    • Q: What is the difference between MobiDrivesPRO, + and LTE? A: See comparison table.
    • Q: What is a mobile website? A: “TheĀ  mobile web refers to the use of Internet-connected applications, or browser-based access to the Internet from a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet computer, connected to a wireless network.”*
    • Q: What is wrong with having just a mobile website? A: “Mobile web access today still suffers from interoperability and usability problems. Interoperability issues stem from the platform fragmentation of mobile devices, mobile operating systems, and browsers. Usability problems are centered around the small physical size of the mobile phone form factors (limits on display resolution and user input/operating).”*
    • Q: What is a smartphone? A: “A smartphone is a high-end mobile phone that combines the functions of a personal digital assistant (PDA) and a mobile phone. Today’s models typically also serve as portable media players and camera phones with high-resolution touchscreens, web browsers that can access, and properly display, standard web pages rather than just mobile-optimized sites, GPS navigation, Wi-Fi and mobile broadband access. The term smartphone is usually used to describe phones with more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contemporary feature phone, although the distinction can be vague and there is no official definition for what constitutes the difference between them. The definitions also shift over time since many phones that are considered feature phones today can have capabilities that exceed those of phones that had been promoted as smartphones in the past.
    • Q: What is a smartphone application? A: “Smartphones run mobile operating systems such as Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile…etc. Smartphones run third-party applications using advanced application programming interfaces (APIs), which can allow those applications to have better integration with the phone’s OS and hardware than is typical with feature phones.“* Dealers now have the opportunity to develop their own branded smartphone applications, or dealer apps that would reside on a users phone just like Microsoft Word or Office.
    • Q: What is texting? A: *Text messaging, or texting, refers to the exchange of brief written text messages between fixed-line phone or mobile phone and fixed or portable devices over a network. While the original term was derived from referring to messages sent using the Short Message Service (SMS) originated from Radio Telegraphy, it has since been extended to include messages containing image, video, and sound content (known as MMS messages). Text messages can be used to interact with automated systems such as ordering products and services for mobile phones or participating in contests. Advertisers and service providers use direct text marketing to notify mobile phone users about promotions, payment due dates and other notifications that can usually be sent by post, e-mail or voicemail. “*

  • Q: What is text marketing? A: “Direct Text Marketing is a form of SMS marketing using today’s modern technologies (mobile phones, iPads, tablets, etc…). This includes using a medium which involves text messaging over a mobile device. “82% of American adults own a cell phone, Blackberry, iPhone or other device that is also a cell phone. Direct text marketing uses the same style of direct marketing with the merger of text messaging technology into one viable marketing solution.”Texting by adults has increased over the past 9 months from 65% of adults sending and receiving texts in September 2009 to 72% texting in May 2010. Still, adults do not send nearly the same number of texts per day as teens ages 12-17, who send and receive, on average, 5 times more texts per day than adult texters. “Companies and businesses can benefit from using this form of modern marketing by sending either promotional content or discount coupons via text format directly to individuals via their personal mobile phones or PDAs. Since mobile phones or PDAs are very personal technologies, you’d think text spamming is usually out of the question. Yet, “57% of adults with cell phones have received unwanted or spam text messages on their phone.” Services of sending promotional or coupon discounts are usually an opt-in service. Which means a business cannot send any content to an individual’s mobile device unless requested by the individual who owns the mobile device.”*
  • What is Text SPAM? A: Defined very broadly text spam could be any text message sent to a person and that are not welcome. The FCC released an order in Aug, 2004 that reiterated that SMS spam messages to cellphones are illegal under the existing Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and also under the CAN-SPAM Act. Ensuring that your text marketing requires the recipient to “opt-in” ensures you are protected from CAN-SPAM and TCPA law suits.
  • I’m not receiving text messages from your service…what is wrong? A: There are a number of factors that could cause you not to receive texts:
    1. Make sure your cellular plan includes the ability to send and receive texts.
    2. Some text plans block “commercial short codes”. Make sure you account does not block commercial short codes.
    3. Ensure your plan does not block you for other reasons such as being under-age.
  • What is a QR Code? A: A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) first designed for the automotive industry. More recently, the system has become popular outside of the industry due to its fast readability and comparatively large storage capacity. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background.”* Popular QR code usage includes downloading a QR reader app to your smartphone, then scanning a QR code with your smartphone. The smartphone will automatically link to whatever information you desire such as a website or download link for a smartphone application.
  • What is a QR Code Reader? A: A QR code reader is a smartphone application that you download to your smartphone. Once installed you can quickly scan any QR Code and retrieve the information. Typically QR codes link you to a mobile website to find out information, download apps, or join contests. QR Code Readers are available for free at the App Store or Marketplace.
